First-Response Guidance for Head/Spine Injuries

  • Do Not Move the Neck: If a spinal cord injury is suspected (e.g. falls, car crashes), do not shift the patient's head or neck. Keep them perfectly straight to prevent secondary damage.
  • Clear the Airways: If the patient is unconscious, check breathing. Do not tilt the head back; use the jaw-thrust maneuver if trained.
  • Control Bleeding: Apply gentle, clean pressure to bleeding head wounds. Avoid pressing directly on the eye or suspected skull fractures.
